The presented study delves into the problem of upgrading biogas to biomethane, focusing on challenges such as methane losses during the water scrubbing process. The objective is to propose a conceptual design for a pressurized water scrubbing system, aiming for efficiency in biomethane production. Aspen Plus software is utilized for simulation and model validation, with a detailed equipment list including a compressor, pumps, absorption column, stripper column, water storage tank and cooler. The simulation results involve a comprehensive analysis of the biogas-to-biomethane conversion process, emphasizing the importance of packing types, such as Raschig and Gempak in reducing pressure drops and optimizing operational efficiency. The discussion underscores the significance of component percentages ,particularly methane and carbon dioxide, in determining biomethane quality. In conclusion, the study highlights the pivotal role of model validation and continuous optimization in ensuring efficiency, reducing operational costs, and enhancing biomethane production. Recommendations include exploring alternative packing types, managing pressure drops effectively, and incorporating sustainability practices . Acknowledging limitations in tools like Aspen Plus and engaging in collaborative research are also suggested for ongoing improvements in the biogas upgrading field.
