The term “pharmaceutical wastewater” describes the runoff produced during the production, use, usage, and disposal of pharmaceuticals. It may have a negative impact on human health and the environment when pharmaceutical chemicals are found in wastewater. Therefore, understanding the degradation of pharmaceutical compounds in wastewater is crucial. This study aims to study the effect of titanium dioxide loading method on activated carbon (AC) towards photodegradation of PCM. The three different TiO2 loading methods used in this project are in-situ, impregnation and impregnation-sonication method. CTAB was used as a green electrolyte for synthesizing supported AC via electrochemical methods. The morphological, structural, and optical properties of the synthesized catalyst were investigated using X-Ray diffraction, FTIR, and FESEM. The impregnation loading method with 10% loading weight achieved the highest removal of PCM. The photodegradation of PCM increased as the concentration of PCM decreased. Various strategies have been used to degrade antibiotics, but they have downsides like constant reliance on chemicals, high maintenance costs, and low reusability. Photocatalysis is a green, affordable, and environmentally friendly approach for treating wastewater. Titanium oxide, being inexpensive, biocompatible, and highly photostable, is widely used as a potential photocatalyst due to its nontoxic, biocompatible, and reusable nature. This study aimed to create pure anatase nanoparticles using an electrochemical method, focusing on controlled current electrolysis. This method enhances the intrinsic properties of heterojunction photocatalysts by solving agglomeration issues, increasing surface area, decreasing charge carrier recombination, and improving visible light absorption.
