Rare earth metal was a precious metal that advanced human civilization in term technology. The rare earth metal was mined from soil using various method. The method commonly used was elution. Elution method was the simplest and easy to operate and maintain at lowest cost. The study was to investigate the sources and present of rare earth. The Rare earth Elements (REE) present can be detected using inductively coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP-MS). In addition, the study also involved different leaching agents in improving rare earth leaching process using elution. Four different ammonium salt will be used as leaching agents. The study also to determine feasibility of leaching process using elution from rare earth sample The dry soil of 100 g will be filled into chromatography column. The leachate then was extracted from soil using four different leaching agents which are 100 mL 0.015 M ammonium sulphate ((NH4)2SO4), 100 mL of 0.2 M ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3), 100 mL of 0.2 M ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) and 100 mL of 0.015 M ammonium citrate (C6H17N3O7) into centrifuge tube from first hour to sixth hour. The research was repeated for six hour straight. The leachates then analysed by ICP-MS to determine the impurities, concentration and recovery of REE for each leachate in tubes. The result that obtain will show concentration of REE using ammonium salts will increase from first hour to sixth hour. The impurities of REE using ammonium salt will also lower due to high recovery of REE. Thus, the higher concentration of REE, the higher the recovery of REE for study from first hour to sixth hour and the lower impurities, the higher concentration and recovery of REE.
