On the Loess Plateau in the center of China’s Gansu Province, there is a special family. In this family, the elders, adept with both the pen and the sword, practice medicine to cure people while the descendants abide by filial duties and carry forward assiduously the martial arts tradition. During the Spring Festival – the most important festival for the Chinese people – all the family members, both old and young, gather together in the village where their ancestors took root, and pass down in a distinctive way the essentials of traditional Chinese culture and ethics
