The development of Polyvinylidene Difluoride (PVDF) membrane for CO2/N2 gas separation focused on preparation the PVDF membrane for the separation of CO2 / N2, study on the performance of membrane developed in term of effect of concentrations (10, 15 and 20 vol. %) and pressures (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 bars) differences via Gas Permeation Test and the characterisation identification by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR). The method in developing the PVDF membrane is by dry/wet phase inversion. The development of PVDF membrane divided into several steps which are material selection (polymer), drying process, dope solution preparation (Polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF)/ N-methyl-2-pyrollidone (NMP)/Water), casting process where phase inversion takes place and for performance and characterisation, Gas Permeation Test, SEM and FTIR equipments are used. Based on the results analysed, in term of pressure, PVDF membrane with 10 vol. % gives a highest rate of performance in permeability of CO2 gas whereas membrane with 20 vol. % PVDF shows the lower permeability for N2 gas. By concentration, pressure at 1.0 bar shows the highest performance of permeability of CO2 and 1.5 bars for lowest permeability for N2 since we want to remove CO2 from N2. However, the performance in term of selectivity shows the stable performance at which at 1.5 bars and 20 vol. % PVDF concentrations, the analysis results the highest rate of selectivity of CO2/N2 gases through the membrane. The conclusion is based on the relation between the morphology, functional group identification and permeation test which each result supported each other to conclude that membrane with 20 vol. % PVDF at 1.5 bars gives the high performance in selectivity of CO2/N2 gases. Recommendation on enhancing the performance and characteristics of membranes developed suggested in term of material selection, further study on effective parameter on performance and the knowledge on every single characteristics and properties on the membrane developed.
