This thesis presented with thermal simulation for laser surface processing of SS 400 and Gray Cast iron using finite element analysis. The objectives of this thesis is to develop finite element based (FEA) computational model to study the penetration depth on material SS 400 and Gray Cast Iron. Besides, to determine the temperature distribution at nodal location using finite element analysis ANSYS software. Before setting up, there are 6 run for imulation and the computer aided design create three dimension of SS00 with different speed 1400mm/min, and 1800mm/min caused different depth penetrated which where 400 𝜇m. 300𝜇m and 250 𝜇m.For Gray Cast Iron, using peak power 1.25KW with different speed 1000mm/min, 1200mm/min and 1400mm/min. Thus, the result is 110𝜇m, 100𝜇m and 95𝜇m. Then, the simulation result of of penetration depth were compared with experiment result for of penetration depth were compared with experiment result for of penetration depth were compared with experiment result for of penetration depth were compared with experiment result for validation where validation error occur range between 20% and 60%. So, it conclude that difference speed influence the penetration depth where grain size structure are affected as well.
