This study investigate the oxygen supersonic jet injection using the Laval nozzle system which applied in an Electric Arc Furnace. Two nozzles with same inlet and outlet diameter but with different throat diameter which were used in Electric Arc Furnace at Perwaja Steel Kemaman have been selected as research case study. The effects of different throat diameter on the performance of the supersonic injection were studied and the effectiveness and shortcoming of the developed modes were highlighted. A model structure with higher ratio of oxygen to natural gas as the shroud gas has been proposed in this study to provide better protection to the main oxygen injection. Besides, the effects of different ratio combination of oxygen and natural gas as the shroud for main oxygen were also studied. Results were compared between the two nozzle model and different ratio combination of the shroud. It was discovered that nozzle with 18mm throat diameter performs better than 15mm throat diameter in producing high speed penetration region. Simulation results demonstrated that shroud of oxygen and natural gas with ratio of 2:1 performs better in protecting the main oxygen injection than shroud ratio of 1:1. Furthermore the case studies on the supersonic injection system based on real practiced data from Perwaja Steel namely KT injection system nozzle which used Laval nozzle shape injector.
