Two of the most basic operations in all of metalworking are shearing and bending. Shearing is the cutting of sheet metal by means of two opposing blades. Bending is the creation of three-dimensional shapes out of two-dimensional sheet metal or plate material. To better understand these processes, this program examines: the shearing process, the various shearing machines, the importance of gaging for shearing and bending, the principal terms used to describe a bend, the press brake and bending dies.
