This study investigates the heavy metal and organic contaminants at Jerantut River and its impact on cage-cultured fish and the quality of fish feed used in aquaculture systems. The analysis revealed that concentrations of Al, Mn, Pb, Ni, and As in the river exceeded WHO and USEPA limits, indicating significant pollution. These metals pose severe risks to fish, including organ damage, reduced hemoglobin levels, and mortality. Organic contaminant analysis detected siloxanes (D5, D6, D7, D8, and D9), with D5 posing a low toxicity. The detected siloxane has the potential to bioaccumulate inside the cultured fish at Jerantut river due to the compound's lipophilic properties. Most of the contaminant have a high concentration near the perimeter of the fish cage instead of the fish cage experiencing significant death. Bioaccumulation of heavy metal and siloxanes inside the tissue of the cultured fish might be attributed to the low concentration of these substances in that location. The quality assessment of fish feed indicated high nutritional and physical quality. The moisture content, water stability, and floatation of fish feed ranged from 9.59 to 12.16 %, 82.86 to 85.92 %, and 100% with the mean of 10.17 ± 0.87 % and 84.82 ± 0.86%, respectively. Total viable count analysis showed minimal microbial contamination, confirming the feed's safety. This study highlights the interplay between environmental contamination, fish health, and aquaculture practices, providing essential insights for sustainable aquaculture management. |
