Summary, etc. This research investigates the fabrication and characterization of mixed matrix membranes for removal of MDEA (methyldiethanolamine) from aqueous solutions. The mixed matrix membranes are formed by embedding high-silica SSZ-13 zeolites within a PVDF. The objective of research is to investigate the performance of fabricated mixed matrix membranes (MMMs), characterization techniques performed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The investigation also focuses on the impact of operating conditions, including feed MDEA concentration and transmembrane pressure, on MDEA rejection during ultrafiltration. To achieve this, MMMs will be fabricated using N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP) with varying high-silica SSZ-13 zeolite content, ranging from 1 to 10 wt% with PVDF pellets and solvent was NMP. PVDF pellets were dissolved in NMP at 40-50°C then the zeolite was incorporated in to the solution. The formed solution was stirred and allowed to cool to room temperature with occasional ultrasonic to in order to make the mixture uniformly distributed. It was then cast into a very thin membrane (0.18mm) and precipitated in the coagulant bath to obtain solid polymer membrane. Next, the membranes were characterized to examine the membrane's morphology and identify the distribution of zeolite particles within the polymer by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Then, analyze the chemical composition of the membrane to confirm the presence of both zeolite and polymer components by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The performance of the fabricated membranes were evaluated in an ultrafiltration setup. Synthetic MDEA solutions with varying concentrations were passed through the membrane, and samples will be collected periodically. Gas Chromatography with Flame Ionization Detection (GC-FID) will be employed to quantify the MDEA concentration in the samples, allowing to determine the membrane's effectiveness in rejecting MDEA while permitting water permeation. Based on the findings, the evaluation of PVDF/Zeolite/NMP mixed matrix membranes for the removal of MEA. Among all the prepared membranes, the 20:0:80 PVDF/NMP membrane showed the highest MEA rejection of 26.64% However, it had lower water permeability of 10.18 L/m²h.bar. Conversely, the 19.5:0.5:80 membrane incorporating high silica SSZ-13 zeolite showed slightly low rejection of 23.89% with, at the same time, increased water permeability of 66.18 L/m²h.bar.Although the MEA rejection rates were lower with the Zeolite-incorporated membrane, there was an improved water flow over time proving the membrane possessed desirable characteristics of higher water permeability needed in wastewater treatment processes.
