| Summary, etc. |
Wooden biomass was obtained from logging, agriculture, and bush-clearing activities. It was converted into fuel through thermal decomposition. This biofuel was used to generate electricity with minimal pollution compared to fossil fuels and as feedstock in petrochemical processes to produce essential goods. This study aimed to determine the content of Gelam and Akasia wood waste and their kinetic parameters during thermal decomposition. The content of wood waste was determined through non-isothermal thermogravimetric analysis, heating samples from 25℃ to 900℃ at 10℃/min, and Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Sulphur analysis. The kinetic parameters of wood waste were determined through isothermal thermogravimetric analysis at 200℃, 300℃, and 400℃. Data obtained from isothermal thermogravimetric analysis were used to plot related graphs based on the power law model, plotting ln ( k ) vs 1/T. The hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin of Akasia decomposed at 200–290°C, 230–400°C, and 250–400°C, respectively, while Gelam decomposed at 200-360℃, 270-360℃, and 290-400℃, respectively. The Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Sulphur content in Akasia were 46.0045%, 5.64%, 0.183%, and 0%, respectively, while in Gelam they were 41.325%, 5.95%, 0.214%, and 0%, respectively. The highest decomposition reaction order was 355-500 μm Gelam at 473 K with 107.3124. Acacia with 355-500 μm at 673 K had the highest rate constant, k of decomposition reaction of 4.38 x 109 min-1. The lowest activation energy required for the decomposition reaction was for 63-180 μm Gelam at 81808.02 J/mol. The research's findings could help optimize thermal decomposition processes and increase the efficiency of waste wood from Akasia and Gelam as sustainable fuel sources by understanding their kinetic characteristics. |
