Corrosion is the primary challenge in many industries since majority of the equipment use is made of metal that has the possibility to corrode. The corrosion happened because of the interaction of the metal and environment that naturally occurs when the metal is revert back to its stable form. In this study, the chitosan coating was used as the prevention of corrosion from happened to the metal where in this study the carbon steel is used. This study was tested using different concentration and the material used in producing the chitosan microcapsule which is the Arabic gum and NaTPP. All the material was prepared and dip coating method was use to coat the carbon steel then the process was repeated for three time and let to dry for overnight in room temperature. FTIR was used to study the morphology of the coating. The corrosion protection of the study was tested by using potentiodynamic polarization and EIS using the Gamry Potentiostat. From the potentiodynamic polarization the corrosion rate is obtain and corrosion rate show that the increase of concentration of chitosan is lowering the corrosion rate. |
