Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) remains a significant occupational health concern, particularly among workers in the manufacturing industry. It may result not only from direct exposure to noise but also from other associated factors present in the workplace. This study aimed to assess the level of occupational noise and associated factors, the prevalence of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL), and the relationship between occupational noise exposure and associated factors with NIHL among workers in the manufacturing industry. A total of 52 workers from FGV Kernel Products Sdn. Bhd. – Kilang Isi Sawit Semambu participated in the study. Data was collected through industrial assessments, self-administered questionnaires, and audiometric test results provided by the industry as secondary data. Descriptive analysis was used to determine the level of noise exposure, the level of associated factors, and the prevalence of NIHL. At the same time, logistic regression was applied to assess the relationship between occupational noise and associated factors with NIHL. The results showed that the average personal noise exposure was 93.1 dB(A), exceeding the permissible exposure limit (PEL). Among 40 workers who completed the audiometric test, 60% were found to have abnormal hearing levels, indicating a high prevalence of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Furthermore, statistical analysis revealed that knowledge of noise and perception of noise risk sources were significantly associated with NIHL outcomes. The findings suggest that NIHL remains a serious occupational health issue in the manufacturing industry. It highlights the need for regular hearing assessments, more effective noise control measures, and improved awareness among workers. The study recommends expanding future research to include a larger sample size and different industries to enhance data reliability and generalizability. |
