Water is one of the most essential elements to good health. It has become one of the most important basic needs for living thing especially for human being. Water is use water for daily purposes such as bathing, cleaning and cooking. Drinking water and water that comes into contact with people should be safe to use.The quality of water is means that the water is clean and safe water for public demand. The importance of water quality to the student is to avoid from health problem. So, the students can learn with healthy body and healthy mind. The objectives of this study are to study the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of water supply in University Malaysia Pahang (UMP), and to identify the sources of water pollution. In this study, water quality monitoring was conducted at nine blocks of student living area in UMP. Eight of water quality parameters were analyzed which include turbidity, pH, chlorine, BOD, COD, TC, E-Coli, and also DO. From the results obtained, all the parameters analyzed comply with World Health Organization (WHO) Drinking Water Guidelines, INTERIM National Water Quality Standards for Malaysia and Malaysian Standard. The results shows that seven parameters are do not within the limit of drinking water standard which are turbidity, chlorine, BOD, COD, TC, E-Coli, and also DO. The value of these parameters is mentioned in Table 4.4,4.5,4.6,4.7,4.8,4.9,5.0, and 5.1. The questionnaires were given to the students for getting the response from the students about the quality of water in UMP. 30 of students in UMP was answered the questionnaire. It is about 73.3% of students said that the water in UMP is low in quality whereas 26.7% of students said that the water is high in quality The interview was carried out to prove that there has the student infected by the water. The action must be taken to ensure there has no problems with student's health in the future. In hope, the UMP authority must always do the maintenance to keep the water that was supply to the students is clean and safe. -Author. |
