| Summary, etc. |
Water is a chemical substance that is important to all forms of life. Clean water is essential to human life. Due to the population development and industrialisation that caused increasing water demand has called for the need to manage the limited water resources effectively and efficiently. The implementation of rainwater harvesting system is one of the solutions which has been given due consideration by the Malaysian government. Rainwater harvesting is a technology used for collecting and storing rainwater from roofs or from a surface catchments for future use. This study will cover the topic on water quality of harvested rainwater. The objectives are to collect rainfall water quality data of harvested rainwater at Masjid Bukit Indah and to analyze water quality of harvested rainwater weather it can portably use such as for drinking or cooking. The study area chosen for this study is the Masjid Bukit Indah in Ampang Selangor. The rainwater collection is use at that mosque to reduce the water demand by user at peak hours. The data collection are collected form five point there stand pipe, toilet flush woman and man, wudhu' pipe woman and man from wudhu' area. The sample is taken once a week for six week time. The wudhu' pipe water was supply from Jabatan Bekalan Air (JBA). The samples taken are to compare the chemical contamination from two different water supplies. The sample analyze based on parameter pH, Iron, Turbidity, Cadmium, Ammonia Nitrogen, Dissolved Oxygen, Total Dissolved Solid and Biological Oxygen Demand. Based on the laboratory testing we can analyze that the harvested rainwater can not use for portable use because some parameter are not fulfill the Drinking Water Quality Standard of Malaysia, 1983 such as Biochemical Oxygen Demand and Iron. So in order to reduce the water demand problems we can apply this system, but for portable-use it must through the upgrading process of water for safety to the user. -Author |
