Monitoring the condition of an engine is the most effective precaution to keep the performance of the engine at the top range. So a Nondestructive Testing is one of the most effective ways to detect the engine wear without dissemble the engine. In this project, there are three objectives to measure the Acoustic Emission produced from the combustion chamber of the engine. For the experiment work, it was carried out on a four cylinder petrol engine. The top surface of the cylinder head is set as the contact surface of the data acquisition. The Acoustic Emission sensor device, AED-2000V Virtual Instrument used to sense the signal from the engine. The parameters in consideration are the RMS voltage and the hit. There are three experiments done in this project to achieve the objective. For experiment 1, the data is taken while the engine runs under idle condition. Experiment 2 is actuated with fuel injector off. For experiment 3, the engine rammed with increment of rpm until 3600rpm. The data is record and analyze. The result from this project shows that when the engine rpm and load is increasing, the higher the RMS value produce but lower the signal hits. |
