Slag is the waste material of steel working industry. The application of slag actually happen when the product of iron mine smelting to purify metals. The product of iron mine before it's has been purify to metal is called ores. This study is mainly focused on the production of mortar from the slag waste at Sungai Lembing as fine aggregates. The mortars were tested to obtain the workability of fresh concrete and compressive strength of cubes. This study also looks into the mix proportions used in the production of the mortar. The materials needed to produce the mortar in this study are Ordinary Portland cement, fine aggregates, slag of Sungai Lembing and water. The trial mix were used are 1:3 and 1:4 to produce the mortar mixes by hand. The water/cement ratio used for this study was 0.5 for both trial mixes. The trial mixes were tested and desired mix was taken based on the workability of fresh mortar and strength of the cubes produce. The workability test was conducts on fresh mortar are slump test, compacting factor test, vebe time test and flow table test. The productions of cubes were threat at 2 curing regime of water cured and air cured. The cubes size use for this study is 70 x 70 x 70mm that suitable for mortar strength test. The compressive strength tests were conduct on different ages of I", 7m, 14m and 28m days. Based on the result obtained, it can be concluded that this study has achieve its objectives which is to produce the grade 20 mortar with slag replacement. -Author |
