Summary, etc. Biodiesel can be produced from vegetable oil or animal fats via transesterification reaction of long chain triglycerides with short chain of alcohol most preferably methanol. For this research, transesterification reaction mechanisms are applied and palm oil is used as the feed stock material. The objective of this study is to investigate the performance of strontium oxide catalyst on various parameters which are reaction temperature and amount of catalyst used via transesterification. The catalyst that has been used in this research is heterogenous catalyst which is strontium oxide (SrO). It has a long catalyst life time, and speed up the rate of reaction which take only 30 minutes for transesterification reaction. It also can maintain sustained activity after being used repeatedly for about 10 cycles. In order to find out which are the conditions of parameters that will produce higher yield of biodiesel, it was categorized into 2 stages. At first stages is to investigate the effect of amount of catalyst used (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 3.0 wt%) on the biodiesel yield. The result shows that at the amount of catalyst of 3.0 wt%, it produces the highest yield of biodiesel which are 96% conversion of triglyceride into biodiesel. At second stages is to investigate the effect of reaction temperature (30, 40, 50 and 60° C) on the biodiesel yield. The result shows that at a reaction temperature of 60°C, it produces the highest yield of biodiesel which are 98.8% conversion of triglyceride into biodiesel. As a conclusion, SrO can be used commercially as a catalyst for transesterification of palm oil to produce biodiesel in order to decrease the cost of biodiesel production.
