| Summary, etc. | LINUS implementation by the Ministry of Education was introduced in January 15, 2010. LINUS is a program that focuses on early intervention, from standard 1 to standard 3 of literacy skills (reading and writing) and numeracy (counting). Past studies have shown that low levels of concentration during the learning process, would have a negative impact on the academic performance of students. Past studies have also shown that the method of training using biofeedback techniques can help students improve their concentration and reduce interruptions during the learning progress. Therefore, this study was designed to determine the extent to which students are able to master reading skills using the LINUS instrument supplied by the Ministry of Education with the aid of emwave biofeedback training method. The study also aims to determine to what extent students can master the method of emwave biofeedback training and be able to apply the learning to improve concentration in reading. A total of 35 students participated in the study and participated in emwave biofeedback training. Students selected as the sample is introduced and trained with emwave biofeedback training method. By using the data collection approach to the pre and post test in which the students will go through five sessions of emwave biofeedback training, the results are used to determine to what extent the increase in reading performance of students after attending the training method. The data was analyzed to determine the difference between pre-test scores and post-test scores of the sample involved in the study. The study found an increase level of reading skills (in Malay). The percentage increase is between 54.3 percent (Construct 12) and 81.5 percent (Construct 8) for the pre test and for a post test the increase is between 50 percent (Construct 12) to 87.8 percent (Construct 7). Biofeedback training methods have also been successfully mastered by students with improved spectral performance of High Frequency (HF) and a decrease in the spectral readings of Low Frequency (LF) and Very Low Frequency (VLF). The study also showed a significant relationship between mastery emwave biofeedback training methodsto increase student reading performance. It is hoped that this alternative method can be developed and incorporated into teaching and learning methods not only for reading but also for writing and arithmetic skills. |
