Principally, the higher demand production of concrete due to good strength and durability has leads to increasing their materials that needed to produce concrete. The challenge the world is facing is that the increasing demand for cement increases the carbon dioxide emission during the production of Portland cement. Recently, the alternative to using cement for concrete is to use supplementary cementitious materials to reduce the problem. Particularly, to utilize the materials that are by products of industrial processes as a partial replacement for cement and to use recycled materials in place of natural resources. This study aims to investigate the effect of Processed Spent Bleaching Earth (PSBE) as a partial cement replacement in foamed concrete properties. Density of foamed concrete 1600kg/m3 was designed as basic control mix (FC) with 0% PSBE. Foamed concrete containing Processed Spent Bleaching Earth mixes were designed by partial replacement of cement with 10% and 20% of PSBE by weight of cement namely as PFC1 and PFC 2 respectively. All specimens were prepared and tested for 12 cubes (100x100x100 mm) for compressive strength, 12 prisms (100x100x500 mm) for flexural and another 12 cubes for durability towards carbonation test for 7, 28, and 90 days respectively under water curing. Referring to the control FC, the compressive and flexural strength of foamed concrete increases as the percentage of PSBE increases. Moreover, the resistance against carbonation of foamed concrete decreases as percentage of PSBE increases. By using the PSBE in foamed concrete may reduce the environmental problem as lesser cement uses and reduce the landfill pollution. |
