Summary, etc. Latest statistic shows that dialysis patients in Malaysia increased from 8181 in 2002 to 26067 in 2012. Dialyzer reuse is fast gaining importance nowadays in hemodialysis whereby 70% of patients reused the dialyzer for multiple times. Unfortunately, the current trend of dialyzer reuse technology in Malaysia is still depends on foreign countries and the development of cleaning agent for dialyzer reuse are far behind the world latest era. The reprocessing of multiple-use dialyzers clearly reduces bio-hazardous disposal costs by more than half. One of the solutions is by reprocessing of dialyzers with peracetic acid mixture that has the advantage of easy management of the disinfection solution. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to develop a new formulation of cleaning agent called Diaclean® that suitable for dialyzer reuse and determine the optimum formulation of the cleaning agent produced. The performance of the dialyzer reuse using various cleaning agent solution formulations were studied by varying hydrogen peroxide ratio (HP)/peracetic acid (PAA) and the amount of water as well as the different concentration of cleaning agent used. Three different concentration were used namely PAA 3%, PAA 4% and PAA 6% in the cleaning agent formulations. Response surface method, central composite design applied to construct the experimental trials for this study. The results revealed that the ratio of HP/PAA is the significant factor affects total cell volume performance. The amount of distilled water was an insignificant factor to TCV performance but its presence is vital in the cleaning agent formulation. Cleaning agent consist of ratio HP/PAA of nine gives the best TCV performance of 85.52%. During final stage experiments, the best formulation of cleaning agent, Diaclean® produced were comparable to the commercialised cleaning agent like Renalin®. From this study, the application technology of using Diaclean® for dialyzer reuse not only increases the work quality but also was capable of reducing maintenance and operational costs of dialyzer membranes especially for the deserving kidney ailment patients. It is estimate that this adventure could save purchasing costs of dialyzer membranes to up to 80% and therefore help alleviate the financial burden of these patients and the operational costs of haemodialysis centre. Finally, this research also cans lesser the environmental impact by decreasing the waste disposal with the reuse of the dialyzer.
