Bauxite mining in Malaysia went on a tear after neighbouring Indonesia banned exports, transforming an industry that hardly existed until 2013 into China’s biggest supplier. This puts Malaysia in an advantageous position over Australia, which is currently the biggest exporter of bauxite to China. The mine while strengthening the economy indeed has causes serious air pollution around Bukit Goh, Kuantan. Bauxite dust and residue released by the processing plants or leaked during transportation to Kuantan Port. To reduce the problem, one invention using the most plant that high in fiber which is Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) , an emerging clean up technology that is both low-technology and low-cost. The concept is like a filter that filtrate the dust. This study was conducted to know about the effectiveness of the plant whether it can be use to reduce the air pollution that caused by bauxite mining activity. The bauxite sample is taken from Bukit Goh, Kuantan. This test was used according the Malaysian Ambient Air Quality Guideline (MAAQG) to check the quality of the parameters that have monitored were PM₁₀, SO₂, and NO₂ together with various speed of wind. To get the all parameter, the experiment was doing properly in order to find the accurate results. The characteristic of Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) which is high in fiber is suitable to reduce the air pollution from the dust and gases in bauxite with percentage removal that have range 60-88.89% for the all parameters which this experiments is highly significant (p<0.05). Thus, it can be proven that Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) can act as a filter to reduce air pollution. |
