Bauxite is a rock that is mainly composed of various materials. In Malaysia, the active bauxite mine is located in Gebeng, Pahang. Bauxite mining has caused water pollution around Bukit Goh, Gebeng and Kuantan Port. Bauxite activity life residue has been flowing out to the river and sea due to heavy rain showers. The left material of the bauxite may easily generate to sulfuric acid in the water. The objective of this case study is to investigate the effect of anthropogenic activity (Bauxite mining) to aquatic life when the river polluted by bauxite and to determine the effectiveness of Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) for contaminate removal during bauxite activity. By using Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) as filter of the particulate matter discharge from the water pollution causes by bauxite, the expected result is to reduce the water pollution around Bukit Goh, Pahang and get clean water. The potential of Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) to reduce the the water pollution is high because it has characteristic which is high in fibre that suitable to reduce this water pollution from contiminate of bauxite with percentage removal that have range 35-45% for the all parameters which this experiments is highly significant (p<0.05). Thus, it can be proven that Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) potential be a filter to reduce water pollution during bauxite mining. |
