Summary, etc. This investigation deals with the groundwater quality for water supply in Kampung Sungai Miang, Pekan, Pahang by using water softener as water treatment system. The community who live at Kampung Sungai Miang, Pekan, Pahang facing a problem where they do not been supply with treated water which free from contaminants that can cause health problem. The only sources they have are groundwater, well water, rain water, river water and stream water for their daily life use which is untreated well. Therefore, the objectives of this investigation are to investigate physical, chemical and heavy metals characteristic in groundwater at Kampung Sungai Miang, Pekan, Pahang and to determine the water quality of groundwater before and after using water softener as groundwater treatment system. Three samples is taken from each different point location at six different time to be tested with several parameters. Water samples were collected from 3 stations that located in Kampung Sungai Miang and analysed using standard methods. The parameters tested referred to the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater which was jointly published by American Public Health Association (APHA), the American Water Works Association (AWWA), and the Water Environment Federation (WEF) in 2012. Parameters that been tested are chromium, iron, Plumbum, Manganese, Copper, Total Dissolve Solid (TDS), pH, turbidity, Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Biochemical Oxygen Dissolved (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Dissloved (COD) and Conductivity. Then all samples have been mix together at every each sampling day and being tested again before and after using water softener as water treatment system. The heavy parameters that have been detected in water sample are chromium, iron, copper and manganese. The highest average value presence for parameters that exceed than Malaysia Drinking Water Quality Standard (MDWQS) and World Health Organization (WHO) are, chromium 1.301 mg/l, Iron 1.759 mg/l. All this parameters if the existence is exceed than standard value will cause health problem to human. After using water softener as water treatment system the water sample that have been tested show the parameters that exceed that standard before, is decrease below the standard. This is shows that the contaminants that exist are totally been eliminated by this water treatment system. It can be summarize that groundwater in Kampung Sungai Miang now is not totally safe to be used for drinking purpose because it consist high level exist of contaminants which can cause disease to human health. But after pass through water treatment process, the groundwater is safe for drinking purpose because the contaminants level getting low and almost eliminated. It have been recommended that this investigation will be applied in the study area which is Kampung Sungai Miang to improve the level of their water supply quality by making a proper system by using water softener as a treatment water system that can be conducted easily.
