Dissertation note: Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang – 2023 Abstract: The number of Malaysian diaspora has been increasing over the years and this indicates that Malaysia needs to bear with huge talent loss each year. In 12th Malaysian Plan, one of the focuses is to strengthen the growth enabler or in other words strengthening the human capital in Malaysia. Human capital has been associated with the country’s development. To facilitate country’s growth, more skilled job of key aspects needs to be filled and this requires more highly skilled individuals to fill in the gap. Therefore, this research aims to understand the characteristics of Malaysian diaspora and predict the future trend of Malaysian diaspora. The methods used in this study are empirical analysis, dashboard visualization, descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, correlation analysis and logistic regression method to gain insights on the Malaysian diaspora. Data are collected through survey and the Return Expert Programme’s data provided by Talent Corporation Malaysian Berhad. The survey is distributed to Malaysian residing in overseas. These data are analysed and visualized using dashboard to provide a clear view of the diaspora’s characteristics. Hypothesis testing is carried out in this research to obtain the population’s Malaysian diaspora returning rate. Next, this research provides findings in the reason of leaving Malaysia by Malaysian diaspora. From this research, economic factors and education factors are the significant factors which influence the Malaysian diaspora’s decision to return to Malaysia. Logistic regression models are generated in this research to predict the return rate of Malaysian diaspora. This research could possibly provide a direction for government and related parties to development plans or policies that mitigate the brain drain issue in Malaysia.
