Biomethane is a type of sustainable energy that is created by upgrading biogas by removing carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulphide, and other undesirable components. High pressure water scrubbing (HPWS) is one of the most convenient method of upgrading biogas by using water as a medium to absorb the contaminants from the biogas. Biogas consists mostly of methane and carbon dioxide. It is one of the excellent sources of energy. The objective of this research is to develop process model using Aspen Plus and conduct economic analysis of pressurized water scrubbing by using MS excel. The techno-economic analysis is conducted to evaluate the cost of production. The developed model predicts the production of biogas from any substrate at any given process condition. The procedure was generally divided into two phase which are simulation model validation, and economic analysis. The component list, process condition and the input of the process is specified in the Aspen Plus. The techno-economic analysis was performed by calculate the capital cost, operating cost and material cost. In conclusion, economic analysis shows that the overall capital investment for this plant including cost purchased equipment and annual cost is achieved RM 3,365,445.76.
