Activated carbons are widely used as adsorbents. This research presents on the preparation and characterization of activated carbon from rubber seed shell by chemical activation with impregnation of potassium hydroxide, KOH as the chemical activating agent. This project revolved on finding the most optimum parameters for the volume of activated carbon in the water filtrate system. The potential of activated carbon produced in adsorption is evaluated by removing COD and BOD from the waste water sample. The samples were set under nitrogen gas flow for temperature of 500°C for carbonization process with activation time of 120 minutes and has been soaked with 1.0M of KOH for chemical activation. The morphological structures and pore structures were characterized by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). It was found that BOD and COD can be removed in a certain amount from the wastewater. This proved that activated carbon prepared from rubber seed shell can be effectively used as adsorbent for the removal of BOD and COD from waste water sample
