This study investigates the antibacterial activity of Malaysian stingless bee honey, namely Heterotrigona itama and Geniotrigona thoracica, against bacteria infecting wounds, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The specific aims were to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of such honeys and to rank their effectiveness in comparison with medical-grade Manuka honey. Authentic honey samples were obtained and prepared via serial dilutions. Antibacterial testing was performed using both microdilution and streak plate methods. The results also showed that honey from G. thoracica demonstrated better antibacterial activity with the lowest MICs and MBCs (6.25% and 12.5%, respectively) for both bacteria. Relatively, honey from H. itama required a higher concentration to achieve comparable effects, while Manuka honey exhibited average efficiency but also needed higher concentrations for total inhibition. These findings therefore suggest that G. Thoracica honey is highly promising as a natural antibacterial honey for wound management and stronger than Manuka honey, since this will contribute to ecological and sustainable therapeutic methodology.
