The development of biodegradable nanofibers has drawn a lot of interest in biomedical applications because of its potential for tissue engineering as well as controlled drugs delivery. The electrospinning technique was employed in this work to fabricate and characterise polylactic acid (PLA)-starch-based nanofibers. The study investigates how fibre structure, degradation behaviour, and structural integrity are affected by varying starch concentrations. The best qualities, such as consistent fibre development, less bead-like formations, and appropriate degradation characteristics, were demonstrated by nanofibers with 0.16% w/v starch among all the investigated formulations. The successful incorporation of starch into the PLA matrix was verified by Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), while better fibre shape was established by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) examination. Tests of swelling and weight loss showed that the modified formulation preserved controlled degradation, indicating that it is an appropriate choice for application in biomedical applications. The results indicate that PLA-starch nanofibers, especially at 0.16% w/v starch, have a lot of potential for application in wound healing and drug delivery systems. To improve nanofiber performance, more optimisations are recommended, such as long-term degradation study and improvements to the electrospinning parameters.
