Emulsified Modified Bitumen (EMB) is a bitumen emulsion which is mixture of bitumen with the emulsifier which to enhance the properties of performance and application. It is widely used in road pavement due to its waterproofing and adhesion properties. Due to its adhesion and water proofing, there is research on the emulsified modified bitumen which it can be applied for coating and heat insulation. Moisture condensation on building surfaces promotes the growth of fungi and mould, leading to potential health risks and structural deterioration especially for operation theatre. Hence, a Cationic Emulsified Modified Bitumen (CEMB) is investigated and developed to increase its properties in term of coating and insulation properties. The objective of this research is to investigate the performance tests of Cationic Emulsified Modification Bitumen (CEMB) for coating and insulation applications. The bitumen is heated and mixed with refined used oil. The modified bitumen is added with mixture of cationic emulsifier (chitosan) and deionised water. Then, the drying promoter and thinner are added. Next, these products are tested for physical tests (moisture content, adhesion, drying rate, stability and flash point) and chemical test (FTIR). The best result of the performance test in term of aging is 57 days which is stay for almost 2 months. In term of heat insulation, the total heat transfer (q) at temperature 27 ℃, 30 ℃, 45 ℃ and 60 ℃ are 0.67 W, 0.68 W, 16.92 W and 53.41 W respectively. It is concluded that the heat transfer and aging play vital role in improving the properties of cationic emulsified bitumen. There is requirement of further research to improve the properties of bitumen emulsion by adding the use of specific thinner that can help to reduce the viscosity and optimise the use in industrial application.
