This study focuses on the development of chitosan-based microencapsulation, utilizing gum Arabic as binder and TPP as a cross-linking agent. The primary objectives of this study are to develop micro-sized capsules for corrosion protection and to formulate environmentally friendly microcapsules that minimize negative impacts on both human health and aquatic life. The scope of the research encompasses material selection and preparation, microcapsule synthesis and environmental considerations. The coacervation method was selected for this experiment due to its simplicity, efficiency and suitability within the given experimental timeline. In this experiment, chitosan (1% & 2% w/v), gum Arabic (1% & 3% w/v) and TPP (0.5% w/v) were used to optimize microcapsule formation. The findings revealed that the formulation containing 1% GA and 2% chitosan (Sample A) produced the most uniform and well-defined microcapsules. In contrast, higher GA concentrations (3% w/v) combined with lower chitosan 91% w/v) (Sample D) resulted in thicker microcapsule walls and indistinct structure, which may compromise encapsulation efficiency.
