This thesis focuses on the development and evaluation of an epoxy-based nanocomposite coating enhanced with hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) and polydopamine (PDA) to improve the corrosion resistance of mild steel. The objective of the study is to investigate the structural and morphological properties of epoxy/APD + hBN/PDA and to evaluate the performance of epoxy/APD + hBN/PDA as a coating. In this study, coatings containing various weight percentages of hBN/PDA (1 wt%, 2 wt%, and 3 wt%) were prepared and applied onto mild steel substrates using a standard dip-coating method. The nanocomposites were characterized for uniform dispersion and structural compatibility. Tafel polarization measurements were used to assess the corrosion behavior of the coated samples in 3.5% NaCl solution. The results indicate that the incorporation of hBN/PDA significantly enhances the barrier properties of the epoxy coating. Among the formulations, the 2 wt% hBN/PDA coating exhibited the highest corrosion resistance, showing the most positive corrosion potential (Ecorr) at -0.369 V and corrosion rate of 8.6610-4 mm/yr. This is attributed to the uniform dispersion of the nanoparticles, which effectively blocked the diffusion pathways of corrosive ions. Overall, the findings demonstrate the potential of hBN/PDA-reinforced epoxy coatings as an effective solution for extending the service life of steel structures. This study contributes valuable insight into the design of advanced corrosion-resistant coatings using hybrid nanomaterials
