Summary: 15-year-old Gan Yuan is in the third grade of middle school. The high school entrance examination was drawing near, but he just could not sit down and prepare for the test. His parents’ attempts to discipline him were of no avail. Finally, they put their son in a “growing experience project”, that is, they sent Gan Yuan to an impoverished mountainous area to see how other kids of the same age were striving for living and studying. A Miao nationality boy named Gun Dian, also in third year of middle school, was asked to accompany him. Stuck in a poverty-stricken situation, Gun Dian was dedicated to pursuing knowledge, in the hope of changing his destiny. In the villages hidden in the mountains, there are numerous struggling kids like Gun Dian. In 8 days, Gan Yuan had a taste of completely different life stories of others, which stimulated his sense of responsibility and care.
