Summary: Historically known as Huizhou, a place is situated in the south of Anhui Province, east China. Widely recognized as one of the most distinguished canons in classic Chinese architecture, “Huizhou Architecture” traces its origin as far back as the Song Dynasty some 800 years ago. Folk dwellings, memorial arches and ancestral temples are jointly extolled as the three greatest achievements of “Huizhou Architecture”, which is also renowned for its supreme “three-carving” techniques, i.e. brick, stone and wood carvings. Ancient Huizhou buildings are a telling, albeit silent, demonstration of their illustrious past, a rigorous representation of the profound local cultural and artistic heritage.
