Subject(s): Dissertation note: Project paper (Bachelor of Civil Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang - 2007 Abstract: Cracks and failure of the structure are becoming major problems. However, if the failure is not critical, the structure still can be repaired to its original pristine. This research was conducted to know the suitability of sea sand in grout component with cement ratio to the sea sand is 1: 5. It is important to investigate the properties of sea sand as a repairing material as the chemical presence will effect to the repaired structure. The presence of chloride is major problem that lead to the unsuitability of the sea sand for grouting. This experiment was done to treat the sea sand before utilize it in batching mortar. The strength was compared to the river sand mortar as a control mortar. Sixty mortars cubes with sized 50 x 50 x 50 mm which consist of each fifteen mortars from sea sand with water curing, sea sand with air curing, river sand with water curing and also river sand with air curing were constructed. The mortar cubes were divided to be tested on third, seven, fourteen and twenty eight days after batching. Thus, to enhance this study, six mortar beams with dimension of 500 x 100 x 100 mm consists two beams of river sand, sea sand and also for repairing beam were constructed. For the repairing beams, space with dimension 400 x 50 x 50 mm were constructed on the top of it surface and were filled with sea sand mortar after seven days of curing. The entire beam tested for the compression strength on day fourteen. Experiment revealed that by using sea sand as matrix for repairing concrete with ratio 1:5 of cement to sea sand is weak and not suitable. -Author.
