Project paper (Bachelor of Civil Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang - 2007
In this modern era, the construction industry keeps on finding the material to replace concrete and steel. Moreover, with the existing of timber connectors in the market, timber is potentially to become a popular construction material. Timber joint used to connect two or more timbers to form structure such as roof truss and frame. Most of the timber joint has been upgraded to provide higher strength from time to time. This study was conducted in order to determine the strength and physical properties of the most used method in timber joint. In this study type of timber that been used is merpauh which is in grade B as in strength group four. For the test, three specimens that been tested for each sample. All joint that been study are in engineered joint group which are nail plated or metal shear connector, nailed joint and bolted. Two timbers, lOOmm x 50mm x 900mm have been jointed each other by using selected timber joints. The tests have been conducts are tension and flexural test. From the result, it proves that nail plated is the strongest compared to nailed joint and bolted joint. Therefore, nail plated connection is the most used method because its strength is higher than the other tested joint. -Author
