Dissertation note: Project paper (Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang - 2008 Abstract: Quality tool is an instrument or techniques are used to support and improve the quality. Quality of product is important to achieve the maximum customer’s satisfaction. The purposes of this project are to find the main defect occur on the car during assembly part in the trim line and propose the countermeasure to prevent the defect from reoccurring. The check sheet is one of the quality tools has been used to collect the data of defect in easy table form during the operating process. According to the check sheet, the information has been analyzed with other quality tools which is the Pareto Chart in order to identify the main problem occurs during this process. Then, Causes and Effect Diagram is used to analyze the causes that contribute of the main defect in the diagram form. After the root causes had been identified, the countermeasures for improvement are suggested. The main defect occurs in the trim line for S-Class model is rear bumper to fender not flush. The percentage of main defect is about 42.9%. Manpower or workers is the main factor to contribute for the main defect. The countermeasure ways to prevent this defect are by monitoring and training the workers, managing the schedule for supervisor as well as motivation and incentive system. The countermeasure above is also ways to improving the trim line.
