Subject(s): Dissertation note: Project paper (Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang - 2009 Abstract: Injection moulding is a manufacturing process for producing parts from both thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic materials. Material is fed into a heated barrel, mixed, and forced into a mold cavity where it cools and hardens to the configuration of the mold cavity. The mold is the part of the machine that receives the plastic and shapes it appropriately. The mold is cooled constantly to a temperature that allows the resin to solidify and be cool to the touch. The mold plates are held together by hydraulic or mechanical force. The clamping force is defined as the injection pressure multiplied by the total cavity projected area. Typically molds are overdesigned depending on the resin to be used. Each resin has a calculated shrinkage value associated with in. objective for this project to determine warpage defect on injection moulding process using different raw material. To determine effective parameter that cause warpage defect. To determine optimum parameters for reduce warpage defect. For this project I use Taguchi’s method consider 3 levels (lowest, medium and highest) and 4 parameters (mold temperature, melt temperature, packing pressure and packing time) and 18 runs. To determine the optimum warpage will use the S/N ratio approach and to investigate most effective parameter contribute warpage will use the analysis of variance ANOVA. In summary this project achieves the objective in order to get optimum parameters and effective that cause warpage.
