Dissertation note: Project paper (Bachelor of Civil Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang - 2007 Abstract: The expansion of the construction sector is growing rapidly in Malaysia which indirectly helps the increasing of the economic of country. The increasing steadily of roads and bridges in Malaysia are obviously shows that Malaysia is towards the high¬tech country. The lifespan and performance of bridge are more or less affected by the inadequate inspection and maintenance management system. Problems arise due to the inspection records are keeping by manually. Besides that, lack of tools to observe the rating or condition of bridge which need for maintenance also reason of poor maintenance of this infrastructure. Therefore a proper maintenance and management of the bridge is very essential. This study is focus on bridge maintenance management and the area of study include the classification of maintenance, the common defects of bridge, the factor that cause the defects on bridges, and the process of bridge maintenance management. The study involved the bridges which under the care of Public Work Department in the district of Kuantan, Pahang. This study is to develop an information process and model by using Geographical Information System (GIS) to support the information in decision making for maintenance management of bridges in district of Kuantan. -Author
