Subject(s): Dissertation note: Project paper (Bachelor of Civil Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang - 2007 Abstract: Cracking is the major sign of concrete deterioration. Concrete can be severely weakened by poor manufacture or an exposed to a very aggressive environment. In order to find the best and economic material to repair building, Unsaturated Polyester Resin has been used in this study. In this study, it was focused on engineering and mechanical properties comprises of compressive and flexural strength. The compressive strength was tested to resin mortar cube and cement mortar cube as control sample with dimension of 70.5mm x 70.5mm x 70.5mm at laboratory of Faculty of Civil & Environmental Engineering (FKASA), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP). About 12 sample resin cubes have been prepared with different percentages of resin were employed namely 15%, 20% and 25% by weight of sand. To produce cement mortar cube, there are three types of water cement ratio (w/c) namely 0.45, 0.5, and 0.55 were conducted with ratio of cement to sand is 1 :3. Find sand passing 2.0mm and retained 1.18~m are used as filler in this study. All the specimens were cured in different types of curing subjected to water and air curing for I, 3, 7 and 28 days. Whereas, from the result comparison between resin and cement mortar cubes, the strength of resin is higher than cement mortar. Apart from that, three concrete-resin composite prism (composite prism) and control prism of concrete grade 30 with the size of 100mm x 100mm x 500mm also prepared and were tested at age 7 days. The result indicated that the flexural strength of composite prism also higher than control prism. It was showed that, resin can be applied as an alternative material for strengthening and repairing of structure. -Author
