Subject(s): Dissertation note: Project paper (Bachelor of Chemical Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang - 2012 Abstract: Epoxidised bitumen’s excellent adhesion to steel provides superior long term corrosion resistance and protection of pipelines operating at moderate temperatures for the designed life. However the increase in fuel base product giving pressure for the coating company in order to continue coating Epoxidised Bitumen(EB) for steel pipe. In order to overcome that, it is needed to produce EB localises. By doing that cost for coating can be reduced dramatically. At the same time it will promote for local economy. In this, method use in achieving the purpose of this research will be by using analysis sample, coating process and properties studies. Meanwhile, analysis the sample will be done in two types of equipment which are Fourier Transform Infra-Red(FTIR) and Thin Film Oven (TFO). Raw material will be used in this research are bitumen, natural spirit (NS) and aliphatic hydrocarbon fraction. This research was being done two stages. First stage was to analysis the sample using FTIR and TFO. Second stage, sample was prepared into several ratio set and mixed thoroughly. All the samples will undergo analysis to identify its properties of each independent sample. Testing involve were pH test, viscosity test, drying test and tape test. From the result, in order to formulate EB we need aliphatic hydrocarbon and natural spirit to be mix with bitumen and the composition of 30% AHC, 10% NS and 60% bitumen by weight ratio were give a best result.
