Determination of the adequacy of at-grade intersection at Teruntum shopping complex / Mohd Naim Bin Ja'far

Intersection is one of the most critical parts in routes design especially at a high urban congestion like Kuantan Town. An efficient intersection will help to accelerate the traffic movement, and guarantees the safety of road users. Instead of that, an inadequate intersection designs will produce a lot of problems such as traffic jammed, accidents, and losses of time to the road users. The objective of this study is to identify the sub-standard performance of the existing at-grade intersection in front of the Teruntum Shopping Complex. The scope of this study is based on the traffic volume counting at the intersection which will be used is to identify the most critical lane and major direction used by the vehicles at Teruntum Shopping Complex. In order to succeed the objective, the vehicles movement at the intersection is separated into seven directions and the analysis starts with vehicles volume counting according to classes such as cars, motorcycles, lorries, trailers, and buses. The counting is conducted during am and pm peak hour. Lastly, the data is analyzed according to MHCM 2006 to get the level of service for each direction in dealing with the current traffic movement. -Author
