Subject(s): Dissertation note: Project Paper (Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering (Hons.)) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang – 2016 Abstract: Friction stir welding (FSW) is a method used once before being integrated to the method of friction stir processing (FSP). Friction stir welding method is a method that has been practiced in the field of materials engineering joining two different material properties into one material. It is different compared with the friction stir processing methods where it only usedrotation of tool for generate heat to alter the properties of metals. FSP also is a technique for creating a composite surfaceand this method does not deal with without melting. This new method which is being derived from the FSW is a novel solid state processing technique for microstructural modification. By referring to the material condition, the dispersion of reinforcement particles on metal surface and the control of its dispersal are more difficult to attain by conventional surface modification technique. Methodically, this project works involves the process of the intense of plastic deformation and the mixing by the pressure heat. In addition, it also can improve the surface properties such as abrasion resistance, hardness, toughness, corrosion resistance. With reference to this method, this project is a way to combine between 6061 aluminum alloy with aluminum oxide Al2O3. It is intended to produce a composite surface to identify the level of violence and analyze the surface structure. It will also adopt a number of parameters such as rotation speed and the speed of movement to achieve the objectives of the project study. In addition, In addition, the increments of the rotational speed will directly resulting the reinforcement of Al2O3 to have a larger area of distribution on the surface. Consequently, this specimen will surely have a good hardness properties.
