Subject(s): Dissertation note: Project Paper (Bachelors of Civil Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang – 2017 Abstract: Bauxite has become a major issue in Malaysia when it gave environmental impacts. From January to November, around 20 million metric tons was supplied to China. This is the main cause which leads to the environmental problem which was faced by Malaysia at the year 2015 until now. The effect of bauxite mining was resulted in the form of dust. The other reason for the dust to be spread throughout the places is due to the heavy vehicle which carries the bauxite to the Kuantan port. Besides air pollution, the water was also infected by the bauxite residue. Since the bauxite residue can be flow out to the stream or lake nearby the mining area. This current issue that occurs was the main idea for the research to be purposed. We need to find a solution to lessen the environmental impact which caused by the bauxite. So aim of this research is to investigate the effectiveness using kenaf with different thickness and the impact of the wind velocity towards the bauxite activity. The main focus in this research is about reducing the pollutant which was released by the bauxite. Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) which is natural product that was used in this research. Plus, wind speed is major factor when we are dealing with air because with the aid of the wind speed, the pollutant can be spread faster in the air. Two devices were used to detect the pollutant which is the Dust Detective and Gray wolf Direct Sense kit. Dust detectives detect the pollutant of Particulate Matter (PM10) while Gray Wolf Direct Sense kit detects the pollutant of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) and Sulphur Dioxide (SO2). Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) is an environmental friendly and absent of any harmful substances. It is 100% natural product and it is easy to be handled. Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) which is high in fibre suitable to reduce the air pollution from the dust and gases in bauxite with percentage removal that have range 60-88.89%. Thus, it has high possibility that it can use as a filter and the thickness of the kenaf fibre has effect towards the reading of the pollutant.
