Subject(s): Dissertation note: Project Paper (Bachelors of Civil Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang – 2018 Abstract: Nowadays there are too many of rats in our country. As the result of increasing of rats‘ population, the usage of chemical rat repellent also increases. Unfortunately, the usage of chemical rat repellent brings harmful effect on human and environment. Besides that, the increasing rats‘ population in the country may lead to many fatal diseases that can infect to the humans or pets. Thus, an effective natural rat repellent is needed to solve this situation. This study is to investigate the potential of Cerbera Odollam and Canna leaf for rat repellent in hot climate area. These two types of plant will be used in making environmental friendly rat repellent. This study also wants to investigate the best optimum dosage for rat repellent. The plant was collected around Kuantan city. The two plants will undergo the extraction process and the ratio of the plant is the same. Before the extract being applied in the study, the extract will be mixed with water to reduce its concentration in order to find the optimum dosage of the extract to be used. In addition, the extract is poisonous so, the dose needs to be minimizing before the extract is used. This study is to help in reducing rat population that have increasing year by year. This study also is to minimize the usage of chemical rat repellent that has been use widely among the housewives and farmers to repel rats. This is because, chemical rat repellent consist chemical substances that are harmful to the environment and human health. After the experiment is carry out, it is found that the characteristic of these two plants can help in reducing the population of rat. In conclusion, the usage of natural rat repellent can help in reducing the usage of chemical rat repellent, the effect of the chemical being release to the environment and can reduce the population of rats in our country. The parameters used in this study are based on the Guideline on Best Practice in the Used of Rodenticides Baits as Biocides in the European Union. The findings from this study are that the combination of these two plants has a positive impact on the removal of rodents or mice in the home and garden areas.
