Despite its extensive ethnomedicinal use, the antibacterial efficacy of K. nemoralis, particularly in managing skin allergies complicated by bacterial infections, has not been extensively studied. This study aimed to investigate the antibacterial activity of K. nemoralis and its therapeutic effects in an allergy-induced rat model. To achieve this goal, K. nemoralis methanolic extract was prepared using Soxhlet apparatus, followed by phytochemical analysis via Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Antibacterial activity of K. nemoralis was assessed through agar disc diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays against Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli. A 10% K. nemoralis extract cream was formulated and tested in an-allergy-induced dermatitis rat model, which established using 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB). The extract demonstrated moderate antibacterial activity, with MIC values of 1.88 mg/mL against B. subtilis and 3.75 mg/mL against E. coli. In vivo, the 10% extract cream significantly reduced dermatitis scores of the treatment group from 6.60 to 1.80, indicating its efficacy in combating bacterial infections and alleviating allergic skin conditions. These findings highlighted K. nemoralis as a natural antibacterial agent and a therapeutic option for managing skin infections and allergies20aFaculty of Industrial Sciences and TechnologyxDissertations 0aUniversities and collegesxDissertations 0aFinal Year ReportxDissertations
