Fungal infections are increasingly recognized as significant factors affecting various health issues in humans, including cancer. This research aimed to explore fungal species obtained from liquid cultures derived from colon cancer biopsy samples, particularly seeking to identify possible connections between fungal presence and colon cancer pathology. Liquid cultures from biopsies were carefully prepared, and fungal isolates were grown under regulated laboratory conditions. Morphological traits and growth behaviors were documented to ensure precise differentiation of the isolates. Molecular classification of the fungi was conducted utilizing Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)- based methods that target specific genetic markers of fungi. DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis additionally validated the taxonomic identification of the isolates. The findings indicated the presence of Gymnopilus sp. within the biopsy cultures, with some isolates exhibiting distinct genetic variations. Initial assessments imply possible interactions between the identified fungi and the tumor microenvironment, warranting further study. This research emphasizes the significance of investigating fungal microbiota in cancer studies and highlights the critical need for molecular identification techniques to uncover potential microbial contributors to cancer development. Future research will aim to clarify the mechanistic roles of identified fungal species in the progression of colon cancer, providing insights into innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
