Candida species, particularly Candida albicans, are the primary causes of invasive candidiasis. The scarcity of therapeutic choices and the growing frequency of antifungal resistance highlight the critical need for new treatments. This study aimed to investigate the antifungal activity of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolates obtained from pickled maman, Cleome gynandra. A total of 10 LAB isolates were screened using a dual agar overlay assay to evaluate their antifungal activity based on zones of inhibition against C. albicans. The C. albicans used was confirmed via Germ Tube Test. All 10 isolates showed antifungal activity against C. albicans, ranging from weak to strong inhibition. Three isolates (M5, M6, M9) produced the largest zones of inhibition with 17 ± 1.73 mm, 14 ± 0.57 and 18 ± 0.57 mm, respectively. These LAB isolates were further analyzed for protease enzyme activity using the Lowry method on their cell-free supernatants. All three LAB isolates were shown to produce protease activity. M6 had the highest activity (1.212 × 10-5 U/mL), followed by M5 (8.4 × 10-6 U/mL) and M9 (4.7 × 10-6 U/mL). These results demonstrated that specific LAB isolates possess significant antifungal activity and their abilities to produce protease enzymes. These findings are preliminary report suggesting LAB isolates from pickled maman shows promising potential as natural therapeutic agents against resistant strains of Candida. Further research is warranted to unravel their antifungal mechanisms and assess their viability in clinical and industrial settings
