The objectives of this study to synthesise and characterise CaO.SiO2 catalyst from rice husk and seashell, and to prepare palm based-oil biodiesel from waste cooking oil by using heterogenous catalyst CaO.SiO2. Wet impregnation method was used to produce heterogenous catalyst. The catalyst are having 5 different composition, which are 10:0, 2.5:7.5. 5:5, 0:10 and 7.5:2.5 of calcium oxide: silica. The seashells and rice husk (source of calcium oxide and silica) were used for catalyst’s making. The effects of different ratio of both catalyst’s sources were studied. Transesterification method is a method in which an ester reacts with an alcohol to form a new ester and different alcohol, with the presence of catalyst. The goal is to convert triglycerides in waste cooking oil into fatty acid methyl esters and glycerol as byproducts. The conversion was suppose at least 60% of FAME’s production with 5:5 of CaO:SiO2 catalyst usage. However, the conversion was way far than the expected result though the biodiesel conversion was 81.71%. This situation is might due to the catalyst preparation.
