Recently, high fish mortality was observed in the cage culture for silver catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) and tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) at Jerantut river. Thus, this study aim to evaluate the water quality of Jerantut river and its suitability for aquaculture and to assess the nutritional adequacy, physical quality, and safety of fish pallets for fish health. Key water quality parameters, including dissolved oxygen (DO: 5.29-6.05 mg/L), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD: 3.00-6.00 mg/L), chemical oxygen demand (COD: 60.75-67.75 mg/L), total suspended solids (TSS: 119.75-175.75 mg/L), pH (8.26-9.13), and ammoniacal nitrogen (AN: 2-2.55 mg/L) as well as temperature (T: 26.26-26.39℃) , were analyzed using in-situ analysis and laboratory test by using APHA standardized methods. Simultaneously, fish feed analysis revealed the stability ranging from 55.40-60.10% with leaching rate of 57.540 ± 1.328 and concentration of heavy metals, such as copper (Cu: 34.54 mg/L), chromium (Cr: 6.76 mg/L), nickel (Ni: 5.11 mg/L), lead (Pb: 6.70 mg/L) and arsenic (As: 0.82 mg/L), exceed with local and international safety standards. Next, buoyancy result shows that this fish is high-quality feed for catfish but low-quality for tilapia while nutrient test such as protein and carbohydrate indicate that this fish feed contain a trace of amount of protein and carbohydrate respectively. The microbiological assessments identified low potential contamination risks with total yeast and mold count (TYMC) was 1.0 × 102 CFU/g, emphasizing the importance of storage conditions. This study highlights the need for integrated management of water quality and feed safety to enhance aquaculture sustainability, improve fish health, and support ecosystem resilience in the face of environmental and anthropogenic challenges.
